What is THC? Is THC legal? THC is tetrahydrocannabinol. It is one of the main compounds in Cannabis. THC is the cannabinoid responsible for causing "euphoric feelings". Simply put, THC gets the consumer high (which is not necessarily a bad thing). Due to its ability to get consumers "high", THC is heavily regulated by Federal and State laws.

Federally, THC is illegal, except for industrial hemp containing no more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC. Although industrial hemp is federally legal, many states regulate the THC contents of industrial hemp grown for both consumable and non-consumable purposes. There are states who have legalized adult use cannabis (marijuana) that contains more than the federally allowed amount of Delta-9 THC. Despite some states' laws, the growing, production, and consumption of more than 0.3% Delta-9 THC is still federally illegal.
