The state of Louisiana is making progression with its cannabis laws. On August 1st, 2022, the state of Louisiana enacted new Cannabis laws.
Act 473 (House Bill 629), bans law enforcement from using marijuana odor as probable cause for searching someone’s home without a warrant.
The Louisiana Department of Health is now in charge of medical marijuana regulation, instead of the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
Act 478 (HB 234) Prohibits the smoking or vaping of marijuana in vehicles is, even for medical marijuana patients, but law enforcement may not stop and search vehicles solely for the smell of smoking or vaping marijuana.
Act 651 (HB 988) Prohibits discrimination against public employees being treated with medical marijuana.
Act 438 (HB 135) Authorizes dispensing of medical marijuana to certain persons who are not Louisiana residents or are short term residents of this state.
Act 444 (HB 190) Authorizes certain nurse practitioners, with prescriptive authority, to recommend medical marijuana to patients.
