Have you ever wondered what Cannabis is? What is the difference between marijuana and hemp?
Cannabis is a PLANT. Cannabis is a genus of flowering plants in the family of Cannabaceae. There are three main types of species: Cannabis sativa L., Cannabis indica; and Cannabis ruderalis. Cannabis is also known as hemp. Under the United States 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is cannabis containing no more than 0.3% THC by dry weight. This also includes extracts, cannabinoids, and derivatives.
The difference between marijuana and hemp is the content of THC and the fact that marijuana is defined as a mind-altering (psychoactive) drug, produced by the Cannabis sativa plant. Marijuana is federally classified as a Schedule I drug and thus carries harsh criminal penalties and convictions.
In essence, marijuana and hemp are both the same plant.
